Annie Falco's idea of a first date was more like an experiment, trying to escape the fears her father had instilled before he died trying to hurt her.

Joel Price never wanted to date. An afterthought to his parents, and mostly overlooked at school, Joel had become comfortable with neglect and invisibility. The last thing these two expected when they found themselves on their first date was to summon a blood-hungry sliver of insanity.

Their meet-cute should have been wholesome, a path to reconciliation and maybe even love. Instead, their date began with blood. A busted nose and a paper cut led to the release of the Nytshel. A piece of madness confined to the yellowing pages of a pulp horror novel.

Finally unchained, the Nytshel could seek its freedom, but for that, it would need more than a few drops of blood. It would need gallons. An army would be needed to gather it all, and as luck would have it, Joel's collection of horror movies was ripe for the picking.

As the Nytshel begins to plague the town with monsters summoned from old b-movies: cannibal cucumbers, werewolves, and a bird as big as a battleship, Joel and Annie find themselves on the front lines with what might be their town's only hope. The same magic that sealed the Nytshel now flows in their veins and armed with cards from Joel’s favorite game, Blood Summons, the two unlikely friends become enmeshed in a war of blood and darkness.

Gifted with synesthesia - the ability to see sounds as colors and affording her perfect pitch - Allissa was a brilliant violinist attending the prestigious Basile Academy for Musical Arts. She had her whole life planned. Become a Master violinist. Marry her best friend Michael. Tour the world filling it with sound and color. It was a simple and beautiful plan.

And then Michael was murdered.

Allissa’s world became colorless. Attending his funeral gave no peace, only questions. There are no clues. No motives. Just his body, cut to ribbons, and strange drawings in his bedroom of eyes and a face no one recognized.

Among his belongings were notes about the founder of Basile Academy, Nathaniel Basile, and the curiosities around the founder’s synesthesia.

Plagued with grief and questions, Allissa’s world shifts. She sees smells, hears colors, and living music notes dance before her eyes. A world only she can see but that eerily resembles what Nathaniel Basile experienced. But among the beauty and wonder are broken notes, patches of emptiness, and Discord. Allissa can’t explain any of it and her problems begin to mount when her new abilities turn into something physical. She can shape the world through her music, bend it to her will. And Discord doesn’t like it.

Now an unseen emptiness is stalking her. A physical emptiness that wants her to be silent. Unless Allissa can master her new abilities, her fate may be the same as Michael’s, possibly worse.
